Patient Care

The Newly Diagnosed Patient

When a patient is diagnosed with breast cancer, she is facing a very scary disease that brings into question all aspects of her life: mortality, femininity, sexuality, professional life, motherhood and even the ability to carry on every day activities. She is also confronted with a logistical nightmare. Who does she see first? Her family doctor? A surgeon? A radiation oncologist? Where can she get the best care? Is there a time crunch? Will her cancer spread while she waits for appointments to be made and records to be transferred?

At Pacific Breast Care, we do the navigating for you, whether you are diagnosed through our world-class imaging center or at another facility. We get your records and films and we transfer them to the necessary consultants with whom we work every day. These are all highly trained professionals who deal primarily with breast cancer patients. Dr. Alice Police has been in the community for 10 years and has developed a focused team to help you. We make your appointments in a timely fashion and we have access to the best surgical and oncology facilities in the world. We are also one of the only places anywhere that can offer you breast imaging, a biopsy, a surgical consult, a diagnosis and a surgery scheduled in one or two days. If you have the time, so do we!

We know that waiting is the hardest part. Newly diagnosed patients often have more than one option for treatment with the same cure rates. We go through these options with you, carefully discussing all of the relative benefits. We also make a recommendation about the best choices for you given your particular set of circumstances. The good news is that with advances in treating breast cancer, most of our patients have an excellent prognosis and almost always leave our facility feeling relieved and happy to be on their way to a complete cure.
